FLP’s website ‘highly commended’ at Professional Adviser Awards

We were so pleased to hear that the website we built for Financial Life Planning was highly commended (is that the same as runner up?) at last week’s Professional Adviser Awards.

Kate Shaw and Rebecca Tuck are justifiably proud to have received recognition for a site that – with the pair of them beaming at you the moment you land on the homepage – is about as WYSIWYG as you can get.

We loved working on the site. It’s simple, clear and full of character. But - hands up - its style is partly a function of the tech we used to build it.

Because it’s the first that we’ve built for a client using Squarespace (our own site makes it two).

Despite being around since 2004, it’s only in the last few years that Squarespace seems to have been gaining momentum.

We’re not quite sure why that is – maybe the longtime dominance of WordPress? - but for organisations which aren’t ready to commit to a fully-featured content management system (CMS) yet or find popular options (like WordPress) a bit daunting, Squarespace's web building tools, email service, retail and membership features, integrations and analytics, offer a comprehensive, lightweight and low-cost option.

And - yes - Squarespace has its quirks but its WYSIWYG setup is pretty intuitive – plus it’s easy for Becca and Kate to update the site. So for a WYSIWYG advice brand, a WYSIWYG CMS seemed like the ideal fit.

Top tip: the number of Squarespace sites you spot which displays Squarespace's 3D grey box favicon in the browser tab is alarming! So make sure to change the favicon to your own brandmark or icon. You’ll find the instructions are here: Adding a favicon or browser icon to a Squarespace site

Many congratulations to Kate, Becca and Joe on your commendation!

Oh and one last thing: it was designer Gar Kwok who rekindled Ian’s interest in Squarespace when Gar was part of the in-house design team at Fundment. (Ian built his first Squarespace site back in 2005.) Thanks for the reminder, Gar!
